CareNET Launches Healthcare Standards Task Group to Advance EDI

As a result of the strategic alliance between CareNET and GS1 Canada, the Healthcare Standards Task Group was launched in December 2007. The Healthcare Standards Task Group's mandate is to advance the development of implementation guidelines for local, technical Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) requirements, which relate to the GS1 Canada EDI X12 Standards for national requirements, and to encourage the Canadian healthcare sector's adoption of those standards. These guidelines will open the door to expanded EDI use between healthcare trading partners.

Members of the Healthcare Standards Task Group include representatives from: Baxter Corporation, Canadian Hospital Specialties, Capital District Health (NS), Capital Health (AB), CareNET, Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec (CHUQ), Emergis, Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX), GS1 Canada, Hamilton Health Sciences, Healthcare Materials Management Services (HMMS), HealthPRO, Interior Health (BC), Johnson & Johnson Medical Products, Logibec, McKesson Provider Solutions, Medbuy Corporation, Medical Information Technology (MEDITECH), Medical Mart, Nestlé Canada, Ormed Information Systems, Plexxus and The Hospital for Sick Children.

Currently, the Healthcare Standards Task Group is in its first phase of work, which includes a review of the healthcare business process to identify the data attribute requirements and their definitions. This information will be used to update the following EDI transaction sets:

810 Invoice
