Membership Levels

As a member of the Canadian healthcare community,  you can join one of Carenet's three membership levels.

1) For Healthcare Providers and Suppliers
As a healthcare provider and supplier member, you will access Carenet benefits in addition to the value of GS1 Canada membership, including:

  • Assignment of a Company Prefix Licence, which will allow your organization to integrate global standards into its operations through:
    • Bar codes using Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) for product identification to ensure no product is confused with another
    • Global Location Numbers (GLNs) for location identification to ensure the right product arrives at the right location
    • Global Returnable Asset Identifiers (GRAIs) to help track your valuable hospital equipment
    • Access to Electronic Product Codes (EPCs) to drive the adoption of RFID technology.
  • Complimentary access to implementation guidelines, education modules and subject matter experts to support your supply chain enhancements
  • Exclusive opportunities to participate** in such standards defining working groups as the Carenet Healthcare Standards Council, the Healthcare Technical Standards Work Group and the Pharmacy Task Group.

Annual Fees:

Healthcare Providers $500  
Healthcare Suppliers $500 Small to medium sized enterprizes earning less than C$ 1 million in annual sales revenue.
  $750 Small to medium sized enterprizes earning less than C$ 5 million in annual sales revenue.
  $1,045 Larger enterprizes earning more than
C$ 5 million in annual sales revenue.

2) Associate Members (Solution Providers)
GS1 Canada's Associate Membership is for Solution Providers who wish to participate in the global standards development process and engage with the GS1 community. It includes:

  • Access to global intelligence and expertise on the latest developments in the global supply chain.
  • Listing on GS1 Canada's online Solution Providers directory, accessed by GS1 Canada members across industry sectors.
  • Access to cross-sector networking as well as sponsorship opportunities at GS1 Canada events.
  • Access to GS1 Canada's online Knowledge Centre, with essential up-to-date courses on e-commerce, global supply chain standards, traceability and more.

Annual Fee:  $ 500


3) Full Associate Members (Solution Providers)
Full Associate Members enjoy all the features of an Associate Member (above), but also include these additional features:

  • Opportunity to contribute to the GS1 Global Standards Management Process (GSMP): GS1 develops and maintains its standards globally through the GSMP.  It is an open and collaborative process in which user organizations express their business needs and work with professional GS1 staff from around the world to develop standards to meet those needs.  The GSMP Working Groups includes:
    • GS1 Healthcare Public Policy Work Team
    • GS1 Traceability Group
    • GS1 Mobile Commerce Group 
    • GSMP ecommerce Technology Group
    • Joint Requirements Group for Active (RFID) Tagging
    • Transportation & Logistics Industry Action Group
  • Opportunity to contribute to and participate in the GS1 Canada Strategic Advisory Council,  Carenet Healthcare Standards Council and technical working groups **
